Empowering self-help groups for caregivers of children and other family members with disabilities in Kilifi, Kenya.
Of 150 million children with disability worldwide, 80% reside in resource-poor settings.
It all began here in Kilifi County, Kenya
To empower caregivers of children and family members with disabilities so they can take control of their lives through their participation in self-help groups.
To establish sustainable self-help groups in Kilifi County Kenya, where caregivers share their experiences, support each other and achieve economic empowerment for a better quality of life for themselves, their children and family members with disabilities.
The development of self-help groups is based on evidence collected over 10 years of research. We have shown that this approach improves the quality of life of both the caregiver and the child or family member living with a disability.
