A well-organised group, the members meet regularly to discuss plans for their livelihood activities. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the group had saved money to purchase a tuk-tuk to hire out as a taxi in the community. However, the successive in-country lockdowns meant that the group had to use their savings for food and essential supplies. Now the group aim to revitalise their plan for a tuk-tuk business and to set up a poshsamill business where people can come to have their maize ground.
Alex is 40 years old. He has a learning disability and remains under the care of his mother. He can, however, manage his own self-care and runs a small business selling groundnuts to people in his neighbourhood. He experiences difficulties in managing his stock of groundnuts when he moves around the community. When they spill and scatter on the ground, he finds it difficult to pick them up. The mother has to manage her son on her own.
Zawadi is 35 years old. She has epilepsy and needs assistance when she has seizures. When they happen, she can sleep for the whole day. Generally Zawadi is independent and helps her mother with the house chores. The group assists the mother by providing money for anti-convulsant medicines.
Your contribution will help empower these incredible individuals to take control of their lives through self-help groups. Together, we can make a meaningful impact!
