A close-knit group, the members meet at the homestead of their village leader. They enjoy working alongside each other weaving makuti (dried palm fronds) for thatching roofs. The group has a part share in a water tank providing water supplies to their local community. The group has welcomed a new member who has the educational background to help them with their shares and savings. The members are happy in their work and aim to have a small building for the secure storage of their makuti so that it does not rut in the rains.
Pili is a young woman of 21 years. She attends a special school, made possible by the group who help out with transport fares to and from school. She makes beads at school. Pili can carry out basic chores around the home. Her mother looks after her, providing Pili with the attention that she needs.
Hanaa is a young woman aged 21 years. She does not go to school and depends on her mother in most activities of daily living. Hanaa does not like to socialise and can become aggressive at times. However, the mother has learned how to manage her daughter’s challenging behaviour. The group assists the mother when the child becomes sick by providing money for treatment.
Your contribution will help empower these incredible individuals to take control of their lives through self-help groups. Together, we can make a meaningful impact!
